It has been a while since I have received a paper doll greeting card, thought maybe they would never make them again. This is a sweet card Penny has a cat and an ice cream sundae.
On the back of the card is the following:
Meet Penelope Jones! Her friends call her “Penny”. She was born in the year 1900, and she wears outfits girls wore 100 years ago.
On the back of the Yellow Dress is the following:
Penny loves her springtime party dress. The lacy apron is called a “pinafore”. No cooking in this apron!
On the back of the sailor dress is the following:
It’s fall and school is starting. Penny’s new sailor dress looks like the US. Navy’s white uniforms. (Penny and her friends never wear jeans to school!)
On the back of the purple dress is the following:
Summer brings Penny’s ballet recital. A special petticoat called a “crinoline” makes dresses whirly-twirly. Penny just wishes they weren’t so scratchy!
On the back of the red coat is the following: In winter Penny doesn’t worry about losing a mitten. A furry hand cover called a “muff” keeps her hands warm.
This is a Gibson Greetings Inc card #40204-001 E8 30564 – 229BJ160-0522
Notice she also has an apple, book, yo-yo, paint box, slate, teddy bear, flowers for her hair and a box of strawberries. All these little things are what really makes a card stand out. Also it is signed on the front by the purple dress “Garris” or might be “Jarris” my eyes are getting worse, hope that is the artist name, it is nice when the artist is acknowledged for their work.
