We now have Royalty in our midst. Sisi was crowned Queen of Hungary in 1867. She was “Elizabeth, The Empress of Austria”
The tail of the Coronation Gown is shown in the top picture. Brenda did a beautiful rendering of all these outfits.
This was from Doll News, Winter 1991 issue.
It’s Very interesting that you posted this tonight. I was just wandering around the internet last night seeing if I could find any more pictures of Sissi or her clothing that I don’t already have. I found another museum that has promise but didn’t have the energy to learn to navigate the site.
I read two more biographies about Sissi just this year. I have books that I have owned about her since 1968.
Sissi seems to have almost a cult following. She is called the LONELY EMPRESS, the TRAGIC EMPRESS, etc..
I have an extensive collection of pictures of her. There is tons and tons of information about her on the internet.
I don’t have the statistics at hand but she was about 5′ 6″ tall and never weighed more than 112 lbs. She was anorexic and exercised compulsively. She was a shy, private person and being thrust into the spotlight, with her every action criticized, at age 16, turned out to be “too much” for her. She isolated herself and traveled the world.
She was very intelligent. There were times when she actually ran the country while Franz Joseph was out attending to wars and political matters. This really “burned up” her mother-in-law. Archduchess Sophie wanted to control Franz Joseph and his decisions, Sissi’s children, etc.. When it was noticed that Sissi was a better ruler than her husband, she was shut out of everything to do with anything of any meaning.
So she rode. Her waist was never more than 18″. She was sewed into her riding habits. She developed a habit of eating raw eggs and milk. Archduchess Sophie took Sissi’s children away from her when they were days old because, in Sophie’s opinion, Sissi was too young, inexperienced and unfit to take care of them. Sophie wanted to control every aspect of their lives. Franz Joseph was a mama’s boy. He was torn between his mother and his wife.
So Sissi refused to have any more children. It is well documented that Franz Joseph was seen standing outside her bedroom door, or pacing back and forth in front of it. He seems to have loved her all of her life.
Brenda has another set of paper dolls of Sissi.
The dress with the red train is not Sissi’s wedding dress. The is her coronation dress as Queen of Hungry. The Hungarian people loved her. She adopted Hungry as her pet cause and tried to do good things for the benefit of the country.
One of the great mysteries about Elizabeth is “what happened to her wedding gown?” All that is left is a gold embroidered piece that might have been part of it. People are still searching for it. I find the discussions somewhat humorous.
That pink dress is a representation of the dress she wore on the day she stepped off a boat from Bavaria and onto Austrian soil. This was the first view Austrian people got their princess. It made her physically ill to be on public display.
This is the kind of useless knowledge my head is clogged up with.
I’m rambling. But what can you expect at 1 o’clock in the morning.
Thank you for the Halloween card. I probably should renew my membership to Jacquline Lawson.
Thinking of you

I just found a very interesting quotation. This comes from something written by Sissi.
In dedicating the following lines to her husband, she describes their love as a cadaver, but their mutual respect as a garland of fresh flowers
She has such a serene look on her face. All these gorgeous dresses would have been sewn by hand, every stitch. Can you imagine the hours put into doing that? No sewing machines in those days.
what a fabulous find! you always have such wonderful magazine dolls that i wouldn’t know about otherwise…i wish i could steal half your collection!
😀
Boots = You have a wonderful site, I visit it quite often. Since I am trying to downsize my collection, I am going to sell most of my magazine paper dolls and all my greeting card paper dolls. My house is overflowing with boxes, stacks and drawers of paper dolls. Too much to cope with any more. Thank you for your comment. PS you know you can print them off the blog. I do not mind sharing.
My child’s name is called sisi as well. the only different thing about my child‘s favourite colour is blue and white。
