This is another Sunday comic strip that had paper dolls where the readers could design outfits and submit to the newspaper.

This one is from 1932 but no date as to month and day.  This doll looks like Tillie.  A lot of the submission had a doll also drawn by the reader so I have a large collection that has lots of different dolls.

I’m not sure you would find me in a gym suit and high heel shoes.

This character Myrtle Boomwell is unknown to me, I thought I knew them all – guess not.  She has some terrific clothes.  This was done by Dale Messneck and published 2/01/1942  Maybe they did not have Brenda Starr in the newspaper where we lived in a dinky little town.

Wish I had that fur coat in the Dinky little town during the winter.  It would get very cold walking to school in the mornings.

Wow! I got to get my sleep schedule straightened out, this getting up at 6:00 a.m to take Korey to the train station is for the birds, take that back, even the birds are not up at that hour.

Well we were missed by Isaac, but now there are two more storms out in the Atlantic so looks like this is going to be our year for storms.  I pray for the people In Louisiana,  they have been hit so many, many times by storms.

I am going to post a couple of Tillie The Toiler paper dolls for our latest visitor who is finding out people interacted with the comic strip paper dolls, tomorrow.

WIMBLETON PAPER DOLL

In going through some items I found this set.  With all the sports and Olympic games  that have been going on thought this was a good time to post this set to the blog.

That must be some large trophy he is holding.

Good news – no Hurricane, nasty, nasty Tropical Storm, want to get this posted in between the horrible downpours of rain that turn off the electric power.

Hello!  It is a dark and dismal day here in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, already we are getting the rain storms from the Hurricane in the Atlantic.  They come and go in what they call bands.  I felt in the mood for something fun and different to post and remembered this from the convention.

I have met Sandra and she is a terrific lady who has one fantastic mind.

Note the lady has a little poodle dog and of course one must keep the sun off.  I love his striped stockings.  Now this set has to bring a smile to your face.

Hello all!

I know I have been delinquent in posting. I have two more therapy sessions next Monday and Wednesday.  So I have been given a lot of home ones to learn before next Wednesday.  I have the motion I need but still not the strength.

Korey goes back for his last year of college for his Masters Degree on Monday so things have been a little rushed in that field.

I also had to take some of my art work with the paper dolls in to show the therapy group so did that this past Wednesday.  They knew I had gone to a paper doll convention and wanted to see the paper dolls.  I also took some of my commercially published antique ones to show them  It was fun sharing them.

All this means is no more being driven by Korey all over, now it is my turn to drive him to the train in the mornings and pick him up at the train station in the evenings.  Summer is over, my shoulder is doing fine after the surgery and I am frantically putting things away for the approaching hurricane due on Monday.

I have not found the disc for the scanner so I can load the scanner onto my lap top.  But I talk to my Adobe, plead with it to be good so I can post on the blog nice paper dolls.

Also if you are a Brenda Starr fan I lucked out and bought lots of her strips with paper dolls on them.  So something to look forward to.

Now got white clothes to fold and put away so will close and wish you all a Blessed evening.  Marge

Saturday was the last full day of the convention. This is the day we entered our favorite items in the competition.  I entered 4 items and each one won a ribbon.  2 first, 1 second and 1 third.   The dress-a-doll exhibit was shown, wow such a wonderful selection of clothes that lady doll has now. They drew the raffle items, all but the top 10, those were drawn during the banquet in the evening. Then they had the free bee tables, I was tired so did not go. Went upstairs to take a nap, my roommate Marilyn joined me and we almost slept thru the banquet.  This staying up late, getting up early was starting to get to me.

For our special entertainment we had an all girl barbershop  group and they were terrific.  I could have listened to them all evening.  Our last enterpiece was a paper doll of a Spar (women in the Coast Guard).

I really like this formal.

Sunday was packing time to go home, breakfast and a lovely talk about the life of Bob Hope given my Marilyn Henry.  Her talk was so fascinating I enjoyed every minute of it.  Thank you Marilyn, I know you spent a lot of time researching it.

Well next year we are back out on the West Coast in California over the Labor Day weekend for the paper doll convention.

If any one would like more information contact: Deanna Williams – 733 Fuente Street, Monterey Park, Ca 91754 – williams 733@earthlink.net  she has hosted conventions before and they are always wonderful.  Save your pennies, give up the sweets and come join us for a fun filled weekend with lots of companionship that lasts and lasts.

First off I have not forgotten the black and white pages from Miss America.  They will be posted this coming week.

Friday was our day for “Learn Shops” -We had talks and slides on American 19th century commercial paper dolls, baby paper dolls, advertising paper dolls, paper toys, how to conserve and preserve our paper dolls, a talk about Pat Stall, a great paper doll artist, the life of Nellie Bly, and someone to identify our mystery paper dolls for us. Also an ex Wave told some stories about her experience.  No matter how many of these I attend, I always learn something new.

The raffle room opened with lots of goodies , and for once I won one item.  I did not know what was in it when I put my ticket in the cup but the paper had lots of the cutest kittens on it, I collect kitten papers, and unusual wrapping paper.  Ended up some cut sets off movie stars that I did not have so was very pleased.  I love the cut sets as I can dress the dolls up and play.

Today we have the 2nd centerpiece on the meal tables for you to enjoy.

Barbara Barnett did the centerpieces for our meals that were part of the convention.  She did 10 for  each table  so everyone at the table went home with one.  This was our first meal.

Fridays activities posted tomorrow, if I can get this computer to work again. I do a lot of pleading with it.

Well I said last night I would tell you all about the convention.  Where to begin.

First the Hope Hotel named after Bob Hope the movie star.  It is a small hotel, very cozy, friendly with helpful employees always with a smile and a  hello.  You look out your room window and see lots of green grass, flower gardens, lovely trees of all sorts as you are way out in the country and it is so quiet and peaceful.  They have rocking chairs on the front porch for smokers or ones who just want some fresh air.  There is  also a little grassy area off the lobby with a 2 seat swing and table and chairs  for the same purpose.  A lovely grand piano in the lobby where a sing along was held one evening.   There is a sports bar with restraurant run by a chef who trained in Paris called Packy’s, this was Bob Hope’s name when he did some boxing in early years.  All the convention and other meals were very good.

The first day was the sales room  all day, with lots of goodies to buy and if you were like me with very little funds, it was fun looking anyway and talking with the dealers.  For me, who has been collecting for so many years, it is seeing old friends and making new ones that means so much at the conventions.

Do not have adobe hooked up to my lap-top yet so cannot post pictures tonight.  Korey has been very busy this week- running somewhere every day and night.

Speaking of night, I am very tired so will tell more tomorrow – have a nice day Friday!
